Care of my rats My rats are kept in same
sex groups of 8-12 rats per cage. This number can raise above 12 depending on
the number of litters I have. If the groups appear to be too large, I can spilt
my groups so they are around 6-7 per group.
All my rats are handled
daily for at least 30 minutes per group.
My rats are kept in good
sized cages - I have an 3 Explorers, an Abode, a Freddy 3 and a Freddy 2 which
house my 6 groups.
My rats are bedded on Finacard/Bedmax as a base
litter, withYesterdays News in the litter trays and torn newspaper & kitchen
towel in the igloos. All the cages have hammocks as well as toys to keep them
entertained.
My rats are spot cleaned daily and cleaned out once
a week. Once a month I have full clean which invloved the whole cage being "broken
down" and scrubbed.
My rats are fed on a diet based on the
Shunamite diet which I vary each time I make it. Please see the link above for
more details.
All water bottles are emptied/refilled daily and scrubbed
out twice a week.
Dr Squiggles is offered twice a week and water
is available 24/7.
All my kittens are handled
daily from birth.
My kittens are given 2 meals a day (breakfast
& evening time) of fresh foods, such as Egg, Chicken & pasta plus a serving
of Curly Kale. They also have dry mix available to them all day and is topped
up as soon as the bowl is empty. A bottle of Lactol (puppy milk) is offered 3
times a week.
All expectant/nursing mothers are kept in a Ferplast
Mary, until the litter is 3 weeks old they then, depending on the size of the
litter, I move them in to a Savic Freddy. At 4.5 - 5 weeks the boys and girls
are seperated and housed in Savic Freddy's. If the litter is small (less than
10 kittens) then they will remain in a Mary style cage.
